Facilitating Successful Transitions

The Department of Education's position that "education beyond high school increases earning potential and employment opportunities" is well documented. There are many presentations, articles, and Internet resources that share information concerning various elements of transition to college including:

  • systemic reports to help administrators and teachers create successful academic programs,
  • proposals for community/business and school partnerships,
  • reports defining technical competence in higher education, and
  • recommendations regarding preparation in the areas of research and writing.

The goal of this module is to explore the counselor's role in facilitating a successful transition to the higher education setting. 

The goals of this development module include:

  • review reports concerning transition process
  • identify the role of counselors in the facilitation process, and
  • explore techniques and strategies for facilitating a successful transition.



To facilitate the objectives, information is provided in text, PowerPoint presentations, and links to relevant literature.  In order earn LPC continuing education credit, review all provided material and complete the module assessment.
