Career Counseling Techniques
Dr. Melanie Bullock

What is career counseling?

Career counseling includes assisting clients in increasing self-awareness, knowledge of the world of work, effective decision making skills, and basic employment strategies. There are numerous theories, assessments, and treatment strategies that help counselors achieve the goals of career counseling. Theoretical principles, assessments, and treatment strategies each provide a piece of the puzzle that will help you and your client develop an effective career strategy.  It is important to remember that these tools assist in the counseling process. They cannot replace you!

The goals of this development module include:
  • review basic career counseling principles;
  • explore various techniques for individual and group counseling sessions; and
  • encourage counselors to take advantage of both face-to-face and virtual techniques.

To facilitate these objectives information is provided in text, PowerPoint presentations, and links to relevant literature.  In order earn LPC continuing education credit, review all provided material and complete the module assessment.
